Is PMS Easier than CSS?

A competitive exam is a dream of almost every second graduate in Pakistan, and such an exam gives a very bright future to many aspirants across the country. These exams are held on two levels: provincial and federal. Exams held on the provincial level in Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are Called PMS, and the exam held on the federal level is called CSS.

As per the discussion, PMS stands for Provincial Management Service, and it is easier than the CSS exam. You are required to serve in the province, and you will deal with people in several public offices. Well, if you think that PMS is much easier as if child’s play, you are yet full of misconceptions. You have to compete with your region to get what you want. Therefore, you would have to work hard to qualify for the provincial services, but less than a CSS aspirant would do.

To understand well about PMS and CSS, let us have a look at both of them:

What is PMS?

As discussed earlier, PMS is a provincial competency exam. Candidates serve within the region they belong to. PMS officers have a limited approach to public services, and they are governed by other federal CSPs. All the applicants shall take all the Compulsory Subjects and three of the elective Subjects (almost one from every group) carrying 200 Marks all. Hence, the total marks for the PMS exams are 1200.

Neither PMS exams are not held every year nor in accordance with a particular schedule. These civil services are advertised when vacant seats are required to be filled. So, be careful before you move towards the PMS exam because you may get overage if a particular provincial public service commission doesn’t announce its competitive exam.

What is CSS?

CSS is a prestigious exam on the other hand. It is announced by the federal public service commission every year in accordance with the FPSC syllabus provided on its website. All applicants shall take all the compulsory subjects and five elective subjects from different groups. They must select one paper from the group containing 200 marks to fulfill 1200 marks in total. CSS officers enjoy their service throughout whole Pakistan.

They come across several traditions and life experiences. Above all, the CSS officers get quick promotions than the PMS officers and get more exposure than the PMS officers during their service.

Comparison

If we compare them, both are prestigious and promising careers for the educated youth of Pakistan. CSS exam is held every year, whereas the PMS exam is held randomly. CSS officers get quick promotions, whereas PMS officers are a bit slower. There are fewer subjects in the PMS exam to prepare and more subjects in the CSS exam.

Moreover, you will compete with fewer people in the PMS exam but more in the CSS exam. There is a wonderful experience of different exposure in CSS but less in PMS. Hence, these are some of the differences between CSS and PMS.

Why CSS is Better than PMS?

CSS is better than PMS. The very first reason for CSS is the conduct of exams every year. The CSS exam is conducted every year that means you have a target and deadline to prepare for. Waiting for the PMS exam to be announced may make you lazy, and you get diverted from your goals at any time.

Also, if you prepare for CSS, you can easily pass the PMS exam as its subjects are almost similar. You would require no effort to prepare for PMS if you prepared CSS exam. Preparing CSS in a specific duration will keep you punctual and determined where you would be much confident for PMS exams if announced.

Therefore, CSS is much better than PMS. It might be a bit tougher and lengthier, but it has a very bright future compared to other fields in Pakistan.
